Anthony Grey

Anthony Keith Grey OBE (5 July 1938 – 11 October 2025) was a British journalist and author best known for his historical novels Saigon, Peking, and Tokyo Bay, as well as his non-fiction account of his 27-month imprisonment by the Chinese government, Hostage in Peking [1]. While working for Reuters in Beijing during China's Cultural Revolution, he was held hostage by Red Guards from 1967 to 1969, becoming one of the most publicized prisoners of the Cold War era [1][2]. After his release, he was awarded an OBE and Journalist of the Year, later founding Hostage Action Worldwide to help free other political hostages [2].
