Anthony Babington
Anthony Babington (1561–1586) was an English Catholic conspirator from a wealthy Derbyshire family who led the failed Babington Plot in 1586 to assassinate Queen Elizabeth I and place Mary, Queen of Scots, on the throne.[1][2] As a young man, he served as a page to Mary Stuart and became involved in secret Catholic networks, joining the plot with priest John Ballard.[1][4] Betrayed by spies, he was convicted of treason, hanged, drawn, and quartered in London at age 24.[1][5]
