Angela Aleiss

Angela Aleiss is an author and professor at California State University, Long Beach, who has been writing about Native American images in Hollywood for more than thirty years. She is acclaimed for her book Making the White Man’s Indian: Native Americans and Hollywood Movies, which examines stereotypical depictions of Indigenous people in film, and followed it with Hollywood’s Native Americans: Stories of Identity and Resistance, highlighting Native American actors' roles in shaping their own images since silent cinema. Aleiss has received a postdoctoral research fellowship for her work.
