Angel James

John Angell James (1785-1859) was an English Nonconformist Congregationalist clergyman and writer who served his entire ministry at Carrs Lane Congregational Church in Birmingham. Trained at David Bogue’s College in Gosport, he became a prominent evangelical leader in the early 19th century, bridging the eras of John Wesley and C.H. Spurgeon. His influential works, such as *The Anxious Inquirer* which sold over 500,000 copies, promoted moderate Calvinism and were widely translated.
