Andrei Sinyavsky

Andrei Donatovich Sinyavsky (1925–1997) was a Russian dissident writer and literary critic who wrote under the pseudonym Abram Tertz, producing works critical of Soviet society that were published in the West to evade censorship. Convicted in a 1966 show trial for anti-Soviet agitation alongside Yuli Daniel, he became the first Soviet writer imprisoned solely for fiction, served years in a labor camp, and emigrated to France in 1973 where he taught Russian literature at the University of Paris.
