The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) is a congressionally chartered organization serving as the collective scientific national academy of the United States, encompassing the National Academy of Sciences (established 1863), National Academy of Engineering, and National Academy of Medicine. It functions as an umbrella organization producing reports and studies through its operating arm, originally the National Research Council, while advising the nation pro bono on science, engineering, and medicine.[1][2][6]
