Amy Tan
Amy Tan is an American author born in 1952 to Chinese immigrant parents in Oakland, California, best known for her novel The Joy Luck Club (1989), which explores the experiences of Chinese-American mother-daughter pairs and was adapted into a 1993 film. She defied her mother's expectations of becoming a doctor by studying English and linguistics, earning degrees from San Jose State University, and transitioned from business writing to fiction in her 30s, producing multiple bestsellers, memoirs, and children's books. Tan has received prestigious awards including the National Humanities Medal and continues to be a prominent voice in literature.
