Alphonsus Liguori
Alphonsus Maria de Liguori (1696-1787) was an Italian Catholic bishop, saint, and prolific spiritual writer who founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Redemptorists) in 1732. A leading moral theologian of the 18th century, he fought against Jansenism and wrote influential works including Moral Theology and The Glories of Mary, becoming the patron saint of confessors and a Doctor of the Church.
