Alphonse Daudet

Alphonse Daudet (1840-1897) was a prominent French novelist, short-story writer, and playwright known for his poetic realism, vivid portrayal of Provençal life, and works like 'Letters from My Mill' and the 'Tartarin' trilogy.[1][2][3] Born in Nîmes to a family facing financial hardship in the silk business, he moved to Paris, transitioned from poetry to prose, and gained fame for his witty, sympathetic depictions of human nature.[1][4] He suffered from a debilitating nervous disease in later years and died in Paris.[1][3]
