Alice W. Flaherty

Alice W. Flaherty, born in 1963, is a neurologist at Massachusetts General Hospital and associate professor of neurology and psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, where she earned her AB summa cum laude in 1985 and MD magna cum laude in 1994, along with a PhD from MIT in 1992. She specializes in movement disorders, deep brain stimulation, and conditions like writer's block and mood disorders, with research on voluntary action and brain-body representation. Flaherty is the author of 'The Midnight Disease,' a popular book on the biology of creativity and the urge to write, as well as 'The MGH Handbook of Neurology' and the children's book 'The Luck of the Loch Ness Monster.'
