Alfred J Church
Alfred John Church (1829-1912) was an English classical scholar and professor of Latin at University College London. He is best known for his accessible retellings of classical literature for young readers, including Stories from Homer, Stories from Virgil, and The Iliad for Boys and Girls. Over a thirty-year writing career, he produced over fifty historical books spanning historical fiction, biographies, mythology, and scholarly translations.
