Alexander MacKay

Alexander Murdoch Mackay (1849–1890), known as 'Mackay of Uganda' or the 'Missionary Engineer,' was a Scottish Presbyterian missionary who served in Uganda with the Church Missionary Society.[1][2] Arriving in East Africa in 1876, he applied his engineering skills to build roads, translate Scripture into Luganda, teach practical trades, and share the Christian faith amid tribal wars and persecution.[3][4] His pioneering work ensured the continuation of the CMS mission, leaving a lasting legacy despite dying young after 14 years in Africa.[1][5]
