Alan Shapiro
Alan Shapiro is an American poet, essayist, memoirist, and novelist born in Boston, Massachusetts. He graduated from Brandeis University where he studied poetry with Galway Kinnell and J. V. Cunningham. A professor emeritus at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Shapiro has published over fifteen collections of poetry and numerous works of nonfiction, exploring themes of family, loss, and domesticity through both free verse and traditional poetic forms.
