Alan J. Southward
Alan James Southward (1928–2007) was a British marine biologist renowned for his studies in marine ecology, particularly barnacles, tube worms, and deep-sea hydrothermal vents.[1] Born and raised in Liverpool, England, he earned his PhD from the University of Liverpool in 1951 on the ecology of the foreshore of the Isle of Man.[1] He pioneered marine ecosystem time series research and completed his book British Barnacles shortly before his death from a heart attack.[1][3]
