Adam Zagajewski
Adam Zagajewski (1945–2021) was a renowned Polish poet, novelist, essayist, and translator, born in Lwów (now Lviv, Ukraine) and displaced as an infant to Gliwice, Poland, amid post-WWII border changes. A key figure in Poland's Generation of '68 and the Solidarity movement, his early protest poetry evolved to explore themes of history, exile, dreams, and eternity, with works like 'Try to Praise the Mutilated World' gaining global acclaim. He received prestigious awards including the 2004 Neustadt International Prize, 2017 Princess of Asturias Award, and taught at universities in the US and Europe.
