A-Z Maps

Phyllis Pearsall (née Gross) was a Jewish Hungarian immigrant who created the iconic Geographers' A-Z Street Atlas in 1936. She founded the Geographers' A-Z Map Company Ltd. to help her father Alexander Gross re-establish himself as a map publisher in England. Pearsall meticulously walked approximately 23,000 streets of London to catalog house numbers, junctions, and streets for the first comprehensive A-Z Street Atlas, which became an indispensable guide for navigating London.
