A. Victor Hoffbrand

A. Victor Hoffbrand is an Emeritus Professor of Haematology at University College London, renowned for his pioneering research on vitamin B12 and folate metabolism, iron chelation therapy including the first clinical use of deferiprone, and authoring internationally acclaimed haematology textbooks. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1935, he attended Bradford Grammar School and Queen's College, Oxford on an open scholarship, qualifying in medicine from the University of Oxford in 1959. He has published over 700 scientific articles, received the 2018 Wallace H. Coulter Award for Lifetime Achievement in Hematology, and was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences in 2000.
