History sometimes repeats itself. At other times, it comes back in different avatars. Therefore it is not an ill-advice to flip open our history books every once in a while. In burgeoning fields, such as marketing which is now majorly digital, the adage still holds. Like a looped racetrack, the end which was the beginning should always be in consideration. This beginning, in addition to being temporal, can also be the foundational stones of the human psyche, or the roots of local culture. This book hopes to help the reader to get an idea of the advertisements from early liberalized India, and how they portray the undercurrent ideologies then prevalent in the society. Furthermore, it is hoped that both social-scientists (an umbrella term which can include professionals from a wide range) and marketing professions can use this book, as a small addition, to get a clearer picture of the future. That future, it is hoped, can include multiple other cultures and temporal ranges. Finally, it is also hoped that casual readers can get a bit more intuitive in reading advertisements between the lines, and to decipher the subtler shades of gray.
