Paper Favours: True Currency

There's no money in money anymore. Yet, it makes the world go around. We all WORK for it. We all SPEND it. We all ACCEPT it. Sometimes it's made of paper. Sometimes it's made of gold. Sometimes it's just numbers on a screen. We do not often think about why.
It all started after one, simple discussion I was having about Bitcoin. A friend of mine commented that Bitcoin had no value because it wasn't "backed by gold". I then commented how the pounds sterling we use in the UK hasn't been backed by gold for years - in that moment I wondered - Why does money actually have value?
After that relatively short conversation, I realised that the world needed to know.
