80 YEARS AGO - Hitler was about to invade England in 1940 when the author was evacuated from Doncaster in Yorkshire UK to unrelated foster parents in Melbourne Australia. Just after he sailed, two other ships carrying child evacuees were sunk by U-boats, many children being lost. Some of the critical events of the war are intertwined with the author's own experiences, including the imminent invasion of Australia by the Japanese in 1942, causing the author to be evacuated again. It was 5 1/2 years before he was reunited with his parents.
