My Grandmother, Vera Nooner, wrote a diary of my Grandfather's illness from a cancerous brain tumor and his passing. She did so with the thought that later someone might be helped by her telling of her experiences and how she made it through her grief by depending on her faith. She and my mother wished to turn this diary into a book, but did not know how. Now I have the chance to make that wish come true. The title of the book is the one they chose. The words inside are my Grandmother's words, I only humbly add some explanatory material and organization. May her sharing of her experience accomplish what she wished - that someone may be helped and encouraged to hold fast and make it through. IN ADDITION, I have added to this volume my own story of my husband's illness - he died of bladder cancer. My grandmother and I share the fact that both our husbands died of cancer, but there our stories diverge. My husband suffered silently for years with a growing case of dementia that spoiled our last years together with its terrible effects. His dementia was an early onset type that took us by surprise, as he continued to function to a high degree. I write this book in the hope that someone else who is hurt by the behavior of a loved one can find the answer to their pain sooner rather than later.
