This is arguably the best novel ever penned belonging to the literary genre known as black comedy. Its Chaplinesque hero moves from one hilarious or terrifying situation to the next in a fog of incomprehension. His "adventure" gradually evolves into an educational experience. The lessons learned are those one might glean from a synthesis of Woody Allen's Broadway Danny Rose and Kafka's The Trial. The story is a précis of Everyman's experience in the modern world.
