Both editions are unique as they were researched by locals, but photographed from a foreign perspective. The in-depth local knowledge and foreign viewpoint we believe bring the project to the next level.. Hanoi is a lively city that wears its culture on its sleeve. It is a city drenched with the hustle and bustle of daily life, where life can be seen, heard, smelled and experienced whilst strolling around its many lakes, down the secretive narrow neighbourhood alleyways, past countless sidewalk cafes, crossing the tree-lined, chaotic, traffic-filled thoroughfares, bargaining in the neighbourhood marketplaces, waving at the multitude of local street vendors or catching a train over the Red river running through the heart of the capital.With so much material to capture, and as a photographer and someone who has a deep connection with Vietnam after eight years, I could not silently sit by and wait for Hanoi to totally modernise and lose its past and cultural richness, making way for bland high-rises and shiny shopping malls.
