Theoretical chemist Parr, to whom this festschrift is dedicated, is considered by some to be a central figure in advancing density function theory, the central concept of which is the total energy regarded as a function of electron density, with known and developing chemical concepts expressed in terms of various changes of electron density. Sen (U. of Hyderabad) presents two reminiscences by Parr's colleagues and 58 papers looking at issues of density functional theory and related concepts, including the Fukui function, molecular magnetism, and a variety of chemical modeling methodologies. There is no clearly defined organization to the papers, but related topics seem to be clustered near to each other, with papers dealing with computer simulations, magnetism, or metals (for example) appearing next to each other.
