To achieve success in multibusiness corporations it is not sufficient to create winning strategies; rather, it is the ability to execute complex strategies that provides the greatest challenge for these companies. The ability of a corporation to execute strategies can either be enhanced or constrained by its organizational structure. However, it is not the formal structure itself that provides the corporation with its unique capabilities. Instead, it is the design of processes that managers use to plan for, coordinate, and control corporate-wide activities that distinguish excellent companies. The key to understanding how the corporation works, and how to make it work better, is to explore the processes of the administrative infrastructure. The aim of this book is to present the conceptual foundations for management processes as well as the tools to assist process analysis and design. It also presents a structured approach to creating a corporate strategy, where the processes and the business are mutually supportive.
