The Bride of Messina, and On the Use of the Chorus in Tragedy

Friedrich Schiller's tragic play, 'The Bride of Messina', brings together antique and modern theater in a story set in Sicily where Paganism and Christianity coexist. It tells the story of two feuding sons, Don Manuel and Don Cesar, who are brought to peace by their mother, Donna Isabella, the ruling Princess of Messina. However, when Isabella reveals that they have a long-lost sister, Beatrice, who was kept hidden in a convent, Manuel's kidnapping of Beatrice leads to a deadly discovery.
