Trail of the Cursed Cobras
Barry Nugent
ADVENTURE IS THEIR CURSE!. It's 1982 and five kids from a North London comprehensive school are fighting the End of the World.. In this heart-stopping tale, an ill-fated decision propels a group of twelve-year-olds into a treacherous web of secrets, ancient sorcery, and an artefact of unimaginable power.. These children don't go to a school of the weird and wonderful, come from a fabled lineage, have powers or special destinies. What they are is smart, tough, determined, imaginative, loyal and brave - the perfect ingredients for any hero.. As the children race against time to solve the mystery, they must face their fears, outwit their foes, battle monsters born of shadow and nightmare, and make their way through traps to the heart of it all: the Apocalypse Chamber.. . REVIEWS. "Indiana Jones meets Sherlock Holmes. I absolutely loved this story, full of adventure, wit and amazing characters." - Quinnbook. "This was sooooooo good! What a fascinating, fast-paced story! I got sucked into this immediately. The chapters alternate between the kids different POVs, but mainly Bobby, Ada, & Tony's. This was very fast-paced, & full of action, danger, adventure, & suspense. There's even secret government agents, magical immortals with a sinister plot, a magical object, & more. It's so atmospheric as well in Northern London in the 1980's-LOVE! Then there is the whole school atmosphere, which was terrific. Really balanced how these normal kids still having a regular school life plus trying to defeat evil & save the world on the side." - Belles Middle Grade Library. "Sometimes you need comedy, adventure, tension and drama and you want it all at once at one hundred miles an hour so you're almost exhausted when you're done. ''This is nuanced, compassionate and very funny genre fiction and I can't wait to see what happened in Norfolk, as the kids frequently do not talk about'."- The Full Lid. "fantastic middle grade fantasy adventure set in an 80s North London school with added magicians, cults, secret agents and various conspiracies. It's fast, funny and has five excellent characters suitable for all ages." - Runalongtheshelves.net. From the Author. Trail of the Cursed Cobras was borne from my own childhood experiences, which included werewolf and vampire hunting, with my mates. Oh and a headless death cult...it's a long story.. The idea was to throw a group of North London twelve-year-olds into an extraordinary adventure. To put a different spin on things, I wondered what if these kids had already survived something similar? What if that supernatural experience was so terrifying (never ask them about Norfolk!) that they made a pact to ignore any future calls to adventure? Will they honour that pact when a strange puzzle box, a missing teacher and a new, very smiley, pupil brings the adventure to them?
