Few moments in wrestling history have been as pivotal as the Montreal Screwjob. Expecting his WWF Title defense against Shawn Michaels at Survivor Series 1997 to end in a double DQ, Bret instead found himself on the receiving end of the most notorious shoot in modern wrestling history. Caught in his own Sharpshooter submission hold, the referee unexpectedly called for the bell at the behest of Vince McMahon, who was standing at ringside to make sure his champion didn't walk out the door to WCW with that title around his waist. Quite a lot changed in the WWF in the years after Bret's departure, mainly the company's transition into the Attitude Era, a style of presentation Bret was vehemently against. But what would have been different if Bret hadn't left the WWF that night? Probably quite a lot, since much of what happened during the early part of the Attitude Era was the result of the vacuum that was created when Bret left. This book takes you back in time to late 1997, and shows how different things could have been if Bret Hart stayed in the WWF and remained one of its headline stars.
