They were closely counselled by Krishna (God's Dwapar Yuga avatar on earth) . This helped them win the war against the Kauravas and establish the rule of righteousness.Bhagavad Gita can be broken down into Bhaga (God) -vad (mentioned) Gita (Song) . So the divine song by Krishna (God) in order to inspire Arjun to fight for re-establishing Dharma in the society is called the Bhagavad Gita.
