We are made to walk the face of creation. To marvel at it. To ponder our place in it. After crossing the stormy North Atlantic, Meyer walks more than a thousand miles, approaching a beacon of inspiration that has drawn pilgrims for over a millennium. He passes through forest and town, over river and ridge, along field and valley. As he walks he puzzles over what we are and what we might be. He encounters people of grace and generosity who share their lives and stories and welcome him into their own. The miles build into a moving meditation, and Meyer at moments falls even deeper, experiencing a profound sense of embodiment that goes well beyond our normal mode of reference. In this account there are no final answers, only the recognition that the spirit never tires of discovery, that curiosity, trust, solitude and companionship steer us beyond fear and regret.
