This book is about my personal journey with Anorexia. I was a young Maori girl, growing up in a small town called Palmerston North with my family. Around the age of 10 years old I wandered down a dark, narrow path - one that would test the strength and love of those closest to me. At a time when eating disorders, anorexia and bulimia were not widely spoken about and facilities to care for patients were few and far between - my mum had to rely on the expertise of doctors, counsellors and psychiatrists, within our small town, to pave a path that would help me get better. The journey I took and the things I talk about in this book are unique to me. I don't sugar coat the odd things I said and did nor the lengths I went to, to remain thin. This was my reality for a good part of my young teenage years.I hope my story will shed light, not only on anorexia but on mental illness in general. No one deserves the suffering, frustration and years lost this illness ensures. This is my story.
