Excel Simulations

outstanding collection of simple excel simulations

Since I just received Dr. Verschuuren's book today,this is a quick review after a brief sampling, and will undoubtedly be enhanced after more examination. I agree with other reviewers that this book has an impressive breadth of examples from different areas. The writing is very straighforward and explanations seem very understandable for the beginning student. The companion website is an extraordinary resource! I haven't taught in this area for a few years, but still enjoy using excel simulations to help me understand and elucidate issues in operations management and everyday life. I recommend this book for beginning students. The book might have benefited if Dr. Verschuuren had elected to inject just a little of his extensive expertise in VBA, but he chose to keep it simple. in my experience, exploring simulation in EXCEL in statistics and operations courses with junior, senior and graduate students was much facilitated with just a bit of VBA macros to allow recursion and multiple trials. Some of this is shown on some of my websites, though the videos are older, and much less extensive than Dr.Verschuuren's. I've preordered (November) the author's upcoming book 100 Simulations in EXCEL, and anticipate it will be a useful extension of the types of models shown in Excel Simulations.
