The disapperance of her little sister when Julie was twelve explains her desire to helpstruggling artist Monica Guidry; she reminds Julie, who holds a prestigious job in the arts, of het long-lost sibling. But it is Monica's young son Beau who will need looking after when his mother suddenly dies, leaving him an orphan.
