What happens when a thirty-five-year-old average American woman spends one year following every piece of Oprah Winfrey's advice on how to &quot;live your best life&quot;? Robyn Okrant devoted 2008 to adhering to all of Oprah's suggestions and guidance delivered via her television show, her Web site, and her magazine. LIVING OPRAH is a month-by-month account of that year.<br>Some of the challenges included enrollment in Oprah's Best Life Challenge for physical fitness and weight control, living vegan, and participating in Oprah's Book Club. After 365 days of LIVING OPRAH, Okrant reflects on the rewards won and lessons learned as well as the tolls exacted by the experiment.

Aha, so this is why we watch Oprah!

Just finished "Living Oprah" and loved every minute of it. The book about her experiment is funny, thought-provoking and a great read. I visited the blog a few times during the year of the experiment and was eager to read the book. I was not disappointed! I love each monthly summary at the end of every chapter, so facinating! I have always been a casual Oprah watcher, as most of the 30-something women I know are as well. I've never given much thought to how much credit I give to Oprah's endorsements or recommendations, but found through this book that Oprah has considerable influence in my own life. Most importantly the book provided many thought-provoking questions that inspired me to think about how much I allow celebrity culture, and media to influence my self-image and priorities. I loved finding out that I was not the only person who cringes when Oprah selects a book for her club that is on my reading list, knowing that I'll never find a copy or that someone may believe my selection was based on her endorsement rather than a personal love for reading. Robyn's writing is witty, fun and a fresh perspective. Now if I can just find the time for my own "best life challenge", I think I'll skip the leopard-print flats! Read more
