Always a trendsetter, the United States military has steadily changed the face of warfare in recent years through its use of drones. These unmanned flying craft have been around for close to a century. But only for a bit more than a decade have they been able to carry missiles capable of obliterating a large building. These small but lethal planes can now fly at altitudes of several miles and often approach their targets without being seen or heard. Moreover, "pilots" stationed in secret bases thousands of miles away, guide them with almost pinpoint accuracy. So far, the targets have mostly been terrorists who have vowed to do America harm. But a great deal of controversy surrounds the use of military drones.
