Kindergarten-Grade 1--Stunning full-color photographs make these small books attractive to beginning readers. The nine spreads in each volume include a full-page photo and one or two simple sentences of from four to nine words. ("This is a desert. It is dry and sandy.") Various plants and animals are featured as well as scenes of the landform. Words are listed by parts of speech at the back of the book, but the intended audience is too young to understand the concept of nouns and adjectives. While the amount of information provided is minimal, these books will be useful in libraries and classrooms looking for nonfiction titles for new readers.Anne Knickerbocker, Cedar Brook Elementary School, Houston, TXCopyright 2002 Cahners Business Information, Inc.
