My Fave Farmer's Almanac

Every year I buy this kind of Farmer's Almanac. There are many books that call themselves the same, but this is the one I like the best. I guess I buy it because my dad used to farm, my brother and a nephew are farmers, and my grandfather always bought one and read it cover to cover. For generations, farmers have used this to time the planting and harvesting of their crops, but it goes beyond that with dates listed for pruning shrubs, planting trees, picking fruit. The almanac even gives dates for other things like cutting your hair on a certain date to make it grow faster or slower. The dates for events are based on the moon's activity. In case you think this sounds like hocum, just try it. Besides that, the articles and information contained in the almanac are interesting. Just the kind of thing I like to file away in the recesses of my mind for plot points and novel premises. Read more
