Helpful & Insightful

I love the way Melody Beattie approaches the healing & recovery process, especially in regards to utilizing the 12 steps of Codependents Anonymous. It's important not to further traumatize, blame & shame victims of narcissistic abuse & domestic violence, and the other 12 step systems do just that. It's also incredibly important for survivors and recovering codependents to know that there are other ways of recovery & healing and that we have the freedom to choose our own higher power, healing journey, and spiritual path. When we've been abused emotionally, physically, psychologically, financially, and spiritually, many of us lost our sense of self, and now we're working on finding our authentic self and regaining our right to autonomy. Being told that there's only one way to heal can be a turn-off and pushes people away. I like how Melody gives recommendations and guides the reader to explore themselves when they're ready. I could go on, but I have a CoDA meeting to facilitate shortly, and I need to prepare. Read more
