Haley Laveen is a high executive at Hinshaw Brice, a company that was owned by her best friend's family. She had never imagined that with the way she had been raised that she could've ever landed that job. In this story, Haley is terrorized by her mother, but she has the support of her friends to see her through the threats.

Shelby Johnson, one of Haley's friends, had broken up with her boyfriend; a man she thought that she would marry and live happily ever after with until the truth came out and he showed his true colors. Haley's brother helped her overcome her feelings and even became a very important person in her life.

Megan Hinshaw, Haley's best friend, carried around a secret that she had sworn never to share with anybody, especially her brother. But there were others that knew and had used it against her which had caused her to end her relationship to the only man she had really loved. Now that Cole was back in her life, she had to get along with him for Haley's sake.
