Who is the Infidel?

Are you an 'infidel' (unbeliever) ? Mohammad ordered that the pagan idolaters of his day be killed if they did not convert to Islam. These days, however, who is the infidel? Someone unsure about which God to believe in? Or maybe someone who slaughters the innocent in God's name? Can I be good, yet still an 'infidel'?
