ABC ZooBorns! is a rarity, a successful transplant from picture book to board book. The transformation is helped by the large type which seems tailor-made for its reduction to the 8x8-inch-square board format. The dual authorship covers Bleiman, the concept man—who serves on the Auxiliary Boards of Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo and Aquarium—and Eastland—photographer, classical portraitist, and poet—who presumably is responsible for some of the photos, or at least the selection included in this book. The reduced version also comes complete with a prefatory letter from Paul Boyle, Ph.D., of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, testifying to the importance of learning one's ABCs, and studying baby animals, too.
