Military Spouse 101

Been a military wife for 20 years now. I reviewed this book to know whether to recommend it to Air Force OTS (Officer Training School) spouses. If you are looking for a Military Spouse 101 book, THIS IS IT. It really covers all the basics for those of you who know nothing about the military. I'm not sure why half of the raters have a beef with this book. The current edition is NOT a shameless promo for the website. Yes, it is mentioned in the intro. because it is part of what the book is all about--providing resources for you. Yes, it is NOT an indepth finance management book, it is a "military spouse 101 overview class." However, it is quite useful to get the beginning understanding of the quirks of military pay. It does NOT talk down to people. I have read so many self help books over the years on a variety of subjects which give advice and take a stance on the "best" way to help yourself. This book is no different in it's tone or flavor. Ms. Leyva is trying to give tips and pointers to save yourself from falling into traps others have. Yes, it is true that most of the info given in the book is available on-line. But if you prefer the smell and ease of paperback, GET THE BOOK! Again, GREAT OVERVIEW of the crazy military life you can expect as a military wife. I will be recommending it to the OTS graduates' spouses. Read more
