If the title of this book puzzles you, this is not your book. Small forward is the jack-of-all-trades of basketball positions, and this entry in the Tip-Off: Basketball series gives these chameleons unusually specific attention. A history lesson and a roundup of great small forwards of yore start the proceedings and, though interesting, delay a clear explanation of the position until later chapters. Glaser breaks down the skills a good small forward needs to succeed, and although some of them feel rather general (rebounds, fast breaks, taking a charge), there’s no doubt the author knows the game—and that will endear the book to readers. Current big-name small forwards get a page each (fans know them by their nicknames: King James, Melo, the Truth), and then Glaser takes budding ballers through some on-court drills.
