Fanny is devastated until she befriends Edmund. Mansfield Park becomes bearable after they form a close bond. Sir Thomas and Tom leave for Antigua in the "West Indies", or the Caribbean. Maria, with the help of Mrs. Norris, becomes engaged to Mr. Rushworth. The Grants invite Mrs. Grant, Mary and Henry Crawford decide to stay with them, and they befriend the Bertram family. Edmund develops feelings for Mary, while Henry, whom everyone wants to marry Julia, begins to flirt with Mary. Tom returns for his father, and his friend, Mr. Yates, visits Mansfield Park. Mr. Yates says he would be in a play, and Tom decides they will stage a play in Mansfield Park, against Edmund's will. They select Lover's Vows, which is a risky game. Sir Thomas comes home while they are rehearsing, and he is upset.
