These sermons are offered with nervous excitement. Nervous, for sermons are meant to be delivered orally by a real live person in front of real live people and not read over coffee. So I am nervous at the risk the sermons may lose their life-giving power when they become chapters in a book. But I am also excited, for each sermon offered here made enough difference in the people I shepherd, that they are still remembered and discussed. Please keep these two things in mind. I try to use a "conversation with friends" style in the pulpit. Second, it is my firm belief that a sermon becomes a proclamation of the Christian Gospel if its main focus is on Jesus' death and resurrection. A given sermon may be about marriage or Labor Day, but I am careful to filter everything through the Cross and the resurrection of Jesus. May Jesus touch your life with grace through these words.
