Mitchell has a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of North Texas, and both master of divinity and doctor of ministry degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. Now serving as campus dean and assistant professor of religion at Wayland Baptist University-Clovis, he also has taught part-time at Clovis Community College.
