John Ball was an explorer, starting when he was a young boy. As an adult, his travels led him to visit with a President and a King, and into many other adventures, some that nearly killed him. Finally, he and his family settled in Grand Rapids, Michigan where the zoo is named for him and you can climb on John Ball -- his statue, that is.
