The story takes us back to the days of knighthood and romance, starting with the setting out from Purple Isle of Tristan le Sauvage, who had vowed never to rest till he had either found and rescued his Sister Columbe, or wreaked vengeance upon her ravishers. Of the remorselessness with which Tristan tracked down his sister's murderess, and of the terrible revenge which he exacted, one must read in the book itself. It would be unfair to Mr. Deeping, as well as to his readers, to spoil this fine and stirring story by giving too much of the plot. - The Bookman, December 1905.
