Rosie has suddenly found herself trapped in an abusive relationship with her partner, Ryan. Gone was the time when he was attentive and loving, now he appeared to have turned into a monster and she was beginning to fear for her life. She needed to leave but where could she go? Her friends and business were there in London and she knew that even if she did leave him, he would be sure to find her, but when her sister, Grace, turned up on her doorstep unexpectedly and saw the evidence of Ryan's actions, she took control and whisked Rosie away to Cumbria, where she hoped she'd be safe.
Jack has found his self in a nightmare situation after stepping in to cover for a friend of his as a lecturer at a London university, hundreds of miles away from his life in Cumbria. After rejecting a female student's offer of sex, she was now trying to blackmail him, making him fear for his career and reputation. The only thing keeping him sane was the girl he kept seeing at the gym at the hotel where he was staying. But once he was back home he wouldn't see her again would he?
Rosie couldn't believe that Grace and Harry's good friend Jack was the guy she'd seen at the gym. Handsome, sexy and extremely fit, she had daydreamed about him loads since she'd last seen him, even though they'd never spoken. But now, after the last abusive actions from Ryan, she felt damaged both physically and mentally and was sure that she would never be able to get close to a man again.
Jack, Grace and Harry rally round to help Rosie recover and build a new life. Jack knows that for now Rosie only needs a friend, and he wanted to be that for her, so he would have to put his feelings for her to one side, but he just hoped that it wouldn't be forever.
Ryan wants Rosie back, not to keep her, but to make her pay. No one walks out on him, and he vows to find her. No matter how or when, one way or the other he would take his revenge.
