Sand Mueller was born in the Houston area, but his life took him many places in the United States and to Mexico. Sand recounts his childhood and his interest in math and sciences, but his interest changed as he entered college. There he became more interested in politics and government, and the possibility of being drafted into the Vietnam War led him to a teaching position and work in psychiatric hospital in Chicago. When those jobs ended, he turned to horticulture, which would become a lifelong passion. That line of work and circumstances of life then led him to New Mexico, Mexico, Oklahoma, back to Texas, and then a return to Oklahoma, where he lives now. Sand has a keen eye for detail regarding his life, historical events and horticulture. His passion for life and his work are evident in his writing, and Sand is honest and frank about the trials and passions of his life.
